We The Animals

The Party: Animal Platform For America

Print Friendly

The following comprises the official party platform as adopted
by the delegates of the 2008 Party: Animal National Convention:

Humanity

Humans consider themselves superior to animals, which they feel gives them the authority to neglect and mistreat us. But ironically, they routinely abuse their own kind just as much! They belittle and humiliate themselves on television for entertainment. They delight in the pursuit of wealth while millions suffer in poverty. They deceive their fellow man for political gain. But toss a little girl down into a well and thousands will converge on the scene to help save a single human life. We believe a generous spirit simmers just below the surface in these creatures, and thus see a great potential for progress.

Democracy

Humans have historically sought refuge from dictators and tyrants by creating their own democratic social order. The Founding Fathers of this country were even willing to sacrifice their own lives for the right to live free. If only they could see how Americans today abuse this right to promote their own self-interest; how the privileged maneuver themselves into positions of influence; how elected officials manipulate the masses for the benefit of the few. But even as the very foundation of democracy continues to erode, there is one fact that often goes ignored: the ultimate power in a democracy is in the hands of its people. We believe that if motivated to participate, Humans will eventually reverse this cycle of political inequality.

The Environment

Some of the most adverse changes to the Earth's environment have been caused by Humans. Imagine how beautiful a place it would be if only they hadn't been created. But still they continue to deplete the Earth's natural resources. Oil drills continue to scar the land. Many animal species are hunted to near extinction every year. Sadly, cohabitation with Humans on this planet is something we must accept. If only they would accept our simple solution to these environmental disasters: Stop it! (Is that so hard?)

Economic Justice

How much is enough? All Humans have needs, but want more than they require. Animals have always met their own needs through the generous bounty nature has provided them. But, as we have learned, natural law does not apply to Humans. Once they get what they want, they only want more of it. But the art of being greedy is not just having more, but having more than "the other guy." And that's where we see Humans fail. Although they have been known to show compassion, sharing their wealth voluntarily is rarely observed. However, we believe this self-serving attitude can be overcome. Perhaps then, those who are in need today, won't become the greedy scum of tomorrow!
